By Vijay @ 09:20am

NL1520

Nokia’s upcoming phablet device, with an expected release at the yet unannounced September event has been making the news lately as the Lumia 1520 and it is expected to have a quad core processor and a 1080p screen. WPC have gotten their hands on some alleged images of the device that look very real to us, the device is placed next to a Lumia 1020.

The device is rumored to be 6″ and ultra thin with a 20Mp camera; what we can see here is that the bezel is indeed quite small matching up to the previous screen leeks we saw a month or so ago.
Note the accessory which resembles an ipad smart cove, that can double as a stand for the device, I want! hopefully this is real, because my pockets have begun to itch!

Rumoured Gold iPhone 5S and plastic iPhone 5C compared in a Video

By Vijay @ 10:10pm

By now you must be more than familiar with how the forthcoming iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S are likely to look, according to several leaks. Adding to the already long list, is a video posted by AppAdvice, which shows the back casings of the gold colored iPhone 5S and the blue variant of the iPhone 5C.

About 4 min  long video shows the gold variant of the iPhone 5S alongside the aforementioned blue variant of the iPhone 5C and the two iPhone 5 colors. The iPhone 5S looks strikingly similar to the iPhone 5, with the only visible difference being an elongated flash unit, which could house the dual LED flash module that was leaked earlier. Additionally, the iPhone 5S is also expected to feature an upgraded camera and a fingerprint scanner.

The iPhone 5C plastic back panel, on the other hand, remains consistent with the previous leaks. It is likely to be offered in two variants—codenamed ‘Zenevo’ and the ‘Zagato/Bertone’. The variants are said to look the same but will feature slight differences on the hardware front. Zenovo is reported to feature a dual-core Samsung H5P processor, 1GB of RAM and Bluetooth 4.0, while the Zegato/Bertone, is said to feature an H6P processor and 1GB of RAM, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Additionally, the phone is also expected to sport an 8-megapixel rear camera.

Both the devices are expected to be announced on September 10.

Sony planning to launch Z1 aka Hanomi on September 18th in INDIA

By Vijay @ 09:58pm

Sony Xperia Z1 aka Honami, is going to launch in India on September 18th at an event in New Delhi. Just like the Xperia Z, which was the Japanese giant’s flagship smartphone for the first half of the year, Sony will rope in Bollywood star Katrina Kaif as the brand ambassador for the device. The fact that Sony will launch the Xperia Z1 within two weeks of its global announcement suggests India will be in the first wave of countries where it will be launched.

Notably, the phone will carry a price tag of close to Rs 50,000/- if not more, which might fluctuate depending on the prevailing forex rate. The Xperia Z1 is expected to be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU clocked at 2.2GHz, which will work in tandem with 2GB of RAM and will have a 5-inch 1080p display that will boast Sony’s Triluminus display technology.

The Xperia Z1 is an imaging monolith as it will combine a Cyber-shot branded 20-megapixel sensor that will have Carl Zeiss optics and a Sony G lens that the company reserves for its point and shoot cameras.

Additionally, is also expected to combine Sony’s BIONZ image processing engine and it is expected to be the first phone to be able to shoot video at 4K resolutions. Design wise as the above press image shows, that it could have a metal frame much like the Nokia Lumia 925 and internally it will also have 16GB of memory, a microSD card slot and a 3,000 mAh battery. It will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. We have also heard that the phone will feature an augmented reality app called Info-eye which could work similar to Nokia’s CityLens app on its Lumia devices.

Satya Nadella, born INDIAN, is in running for Microsoft top job...CEO???

By Vijay @ 02:59pm

Satya Nadella born Indian, currently heading Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, is listed among likely successors to the information technology giant’s CEO Steve Ballmer, who is set to retire within a year.

As executive vice president, Nadella “runs a group that continues to churn out growth and profits”, noted Seattle Times in a story on the start of a guessing game among Microsoft watchers since Ballmer’s impending departure was announced.

“There is no single clear successor to a lightning rod of a leader who remains one of the most identifiable CEOs in the country,” it said.

“What’s more, the next CEO may well have a far different job than the one Ballmer is vacating”, the Times said as “Once the dominant force in technology, Microsoft now finds itself chasing companies in key businesses such as Google in Web search and Apple in mobile devices.”

Nadella, 44, as head of Microsoft’s $19 billion Server and Tools Business, is credited with the transformation of the business and technology from client-server software to cloud infrastructure and services.

Before joining Microsoft in 1992, he initially worked as the senior vice president of R&D for the Online Services Division and vice president of the Microsoft Business Division, Nadella worked with Sun Microsystems as a member of the technology staff.

Listing Nadella among potential Ballmer successors, the Wall Street journal noted he “ran the Server and Tools business successfully from 2011 to this year and took over running the company’s important cloud-computing efforts in last month’s management reshuffle”.

“Indeed, in reassigning a number of top executives, that reorganization seems a tailor-made bake-off for the top job,” it said.

Nadella also figures on the New York Times’ list of current Microsoft executives who could be contenders besides Tony Bates, former director of Skype and now executive vice president of business development and strategy.

Speculation by analysts and executives about external candidates included Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook; Reed Hastings, chief executive of Netflix and a former director at Microsoft; Scott Forstall, who ran iOS at Apple until last year and John Legere, chief executive of T-Mobile, it said.

Nadella holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology. He is also an alumnus of the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet.

So, Wish him all the Best...

HTC offers Rs 2,500/- off on the Desire X and Desire U under buyback scheme in INDIA

By Vijay @ 02:16pm

Apple’s buyback schemes for its phones and tablets have been a huge hit in the Indian market and nearly all the other companies like LG, Nokia,, Sony, Samsung and BlackBerry have followed the same with their own schemes. Now, the latest to enter this arena is HTC.

HTC is offering a buyback scheme on its Desire series of phones, especially the Desire X and the Desire U. Under the scheme, when you exchange your old phone you will get Rs 2,500/- off on either one of the aforementioned devices. Needless to say, the cashback is subject to certain conditions. The scheme effectively brings down the price of the Desire X from Rs 16,790/- to Rs 14,280/- and in the case of the Desire U from Rs 14,390/- to Rs 11,890/-.

Unlike the schemes offered by Sony and Samsung, where they offer cashback after having raised the prices of the devices, HTC hasn’t raised the price of the Desire X or the Desire U. Without the scheme, the Desire X is available on e-commerce sites at prices ranging from Rs 16,000/- to Rs 17,490/-. The Desire U, on the other hand, is available in the range of Rs 13,000/- to Rs 14,000/- on e-commerce sites.

Samsung Galaxy Gear detailed (Samsung Expected Smart Watch)

By Vijay @ 09:19am

There has been a sudden flow of reports talking about Samsung’s upcoming smartwatch Galaxy Gear. Popular technology blogs The Verge and GigaOM have published separate reports in the last 24 hours, claiming some exclusive information about this upcoming accessory.

Samsung Galaxy Gear
A mockup of Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch

According to The Verge, which contradicts recent Bloomberg story on voice calling support in this Samsung smartwatch, Galaxy Gear will definitely not be a phone unto itself. “It works with phones but the watch is not a phone,” the blog noted citing a source with information about Galaxy Gear.

On the other hand, GigaOM’s Om Malilk, who claims to have details about the specs of Galaxy Gear, the Samsung smartwatch will come with a 2.5-inch square display and dual-core processor.  The display is said to be OLED. Om adds a few more details like presence of a camera, NFC chip and Bluetooth 4.0 LE support in Galaxy Gear. “In addition, the watch might also has a built-in accelerometer that makes it possible to switch it on when it is moved up towards the eye. It could be a great way to wake the watch and also the apps and manage battery power,” he noted.

On the software front, he states that the watch will most probably run on Android 4.2 and will pack tight integration with smartphones using Watch Manager app. Samsung is reportedly using a proprietary accessory protocol, which will use Bluetooth LE as the network transport.

This is not all, GigaOM report also includes that the apps designed for this watch will be available via Samsung Appstore not Google Play. So this is watch can fully utilized with Samsung Smartphones only.

To remind you, Samsung Galaxy Gear is expected to be announced on September 4 in Berlin and New York at simultaneous press events along with Samgung Galaxy Note 3.

By Vijay @ 10:49pm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XwKBy_yf7CA

Nokia has released a short film to show off some of the new features included in the Amber update which is currently rolling out. Bundled with Windows Phone 8 GDR2 from Microsoft, Nokia has been able to add numerous enhancements and improvements to features and functionality boasted by Lumia hardware.

We've gone into some detail as to what's available in both updates. Should you require reminding, Windows Phone 10327 (GDR2) is a minor OS update that brings FM radio, some enhancements to Xbox Music, WAV file playback for voicemail, fixed Other storage, and other minor bug fixes in addition to enabling the new hardware found in the Lumia 1020.

Nokia’s bundled Amber update (highlighted in the above video), which is what is causing the delays for release, allows the new Glance screen, flip to silence, Lumia Color Profile and an improved camera experience, making the combo of an update quite interesting for consumers. So who's getting the Amber update? See below:
Lumia Amber
It's worth noting the Lumia 625, Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020 are not listed because GDR2 and Amber are both pre-loaded. If you're yet to receive the update, head on over to Settings > Phone Update and hit "Check for updates" to see if you're next in line. Nokia has stated they expect to have the update rolled out successfully by the end of September so don't freak out if you've not yet got the notification.

Apple’s gold colored iPhone 5S confirmed

By Vijay @ 10:37pm

We have been hearing rumors about Apple’s plans to offer its forthcoming iPhone 5S in a gold colored variant and even seen alleged photos of the device. Now a report by TechCrunch’s MG Siegler has all but confirmed the existence of this variant.

According to the report, the idea of a gold variant stems from the fact that the color is very popular. Gold colored cases are a huge hit, especially in countries like China and India and Apple wants to tap into this growing market. Another reason could be that Apple is facing another year where their upgrades will be internal rather than external, and by offering a new jazzy color it would be able to please a large section of buyers.

Making a gold colored variant is not difficult either and in fact is much easier to manufacture than the black variant. The process involves a simple chemical reaction, with the possible addition of dye depending on the exact color they want to produce. Siegler further reveals that the device won’t be a gaudy gold color but a more subtle champagne color.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5S during a press conference on September 10, and the device is said to feature a faster processor, an upgraded camera with a dual-LED flash and an embedded fingerprint scanner. The 5S will also reportedly be accompanied by the cheaper iPhone 5C, which too will be offered in multiple colored variants, ranging from white, red, blue, green and yellow among others.

Now seperate Apple's Appstore for Kids in advance of IOS 7...

By Vijay @ 05:30pm

 ios7 app store press
IOS 7 users can now expect to see a new section in the App Store aimed at children . 9to5Mac reports that iOS developers have started receiving emails stating that they can now submit their apps for the Kids section, which is meant specifically for children 11 years old and younger. Apps can be linked to one of three different age ranges: children five and under, children six to eight, and children nine and above. While all apps will be featured in their usual categories per the current behavior, only those that have been tagged with the selected age ranges will appear in the new Kids section

It's just one of several kid-friendly preparations Apple is making in the App Store. Earlier this week, MacRumors reported that Apple had updated its app review guidelines to reflect the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, which prevents developers from collecting information like email addresses from children under 13 without the consent of a parent.

The new language also sates that children under 13 can't be subjected to customized advertising based upon their behavior within the app, and that they can't be sent outside an app or purchase anything without consent from a parent.

As tablets and mobile devices have become increasingly omnipresent, these small considerations have become an increasingly important concern and selling point  with iOS, the latest version of Android, and the Kindle Fire line of products all offering some sort of restricted access profiles for parents now a days in they recent udpates..

Amber update is rolling out across all Windows Phone 8 Lumia smartphones

By Vijay @ 03:05pm
Nokia has started rolling out its much-awaited Amber software update to all its Windows Phone 8 Lumia smartphones, which will now come with new and improved camera features and other apps.

The Amber update is Nokia’s initiative to build up on Microsoft’s latest update GDR2 to the Windows Phone 8 software, which brought a new FM radio player and improvements to Xbox music and the Internet Explorer browser. The Amber update will be available first for the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 in select countries as well as the Lumia 521, Lumia 810, and Lumia 928 in the US, and will be reaching out to all devices including Lumia 520, Lumia 620, Lumia 720, Lumia 820 or Lumia 920 by the end of September.

Features-wise, as expected this update brings improved image processing with better noise reduction, color reproduction, exposure control, autofocus, refined low light performance, and a number of other camera improvements depending on the phone model and its camera capabilities.

An interesting part would be the availability of Nokia’s Smart Camera app across the Lumia portfolio, which was restricted to the Nokia Lumia 925 only. After updating their phones to Amber, users will be able to download the app from the Windows market place. In addition to that, the update will also bring Nokia’s newly launched Pro Camera app for better video particularly for the Lumia 920, Lumia 925, and Lumia 928, starting from today.

Apart from camera related tweaks, the Amber update will also come with Nokia Glance Screen to set a clock on the device’s screen when the phone is inactive. This will also come with battery-level and an indicator for silent mode. This feature will be available in the ‘display and touch’ section in Settings menu, and will be available for all WP8 Lumia devices except the Nokia Lumia 520 and Lumia 625.

Along with this, the new update will allow users to make use of the flip to silence for an incoming call and double-tap to wake and easy unlock features, which are pretty popular on smartphones by other brands as well.

The Grand i10 is nearly the size of the i20, which makes it extremely promising as far as passenger and luggage space go

The Hyundai Grand i10 is an all-new car from the ground up where the Indian market is concerned. As per leaked images, it continues to follow Hyundai ‘s fluidic design language but has stronger design lines and an edgier character compared to both the i10 and i20. The Grand is larger than the i10 and it sits on a longer wheelbase as well, so expect a roomier cabin and a bigger boot which should be among the best in class.

Hyundai has improved the look and feel of plastic inside the cabin giving the Grand i10 a plus, more upmarket ambience. The Grand i10 gets height adjustable driver’s seat, electric ORVMs, a stereo with Bluetooth telephony, a multifunctional steering wheel, reversing camera, and for the first time in this segment – rear aircon vents. In addition, the Grand will also sport ABS and airbags on the safety end.
The front and rear of the Grand i10 do have fluidic elements, but when you're making an economic car, getting swoopy with the body panels becomes cost-inefficient

The Grand i10 will be available with two engine options. The petrol will be the tried and tested 1.2-litre Kappa 2 engine which currently powers the i20. The Kappa 2 boasts of class-leading output figures and is one of the better engines in its class when it comes to refinement, performance or fuel economy. Expect it to perform as well if not better on the Grand i10 as well.

The petrol version of the Grand i10 will be available with both a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed auto. The manual will come in four versions – Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O), while the automatic will only be sold in the Sportz trim. The latter will compete against the recently launched Nissan Micra CVT and the Honda Brio AT, but expected it to be priced significantly lower.

The second engine will be a diesel. This will also pit the Grand i10 head-on against Maruti’s offerings – the Swift and Ritz. The three-cylinder U2 common rail direct injection diesel engine is new for India but has been on sale internationally for a while now. The engine makes 75PS of max power and 152Nm of peak torque. It uses a variable geometry turbocharger which will a first in class in India and is mated to a five-speed gearbox. There will be no automatic version for the diesel-engined Grand i10.
It's the first time Hyundai have offered a diesel this low in the pecking order

The Grand i10 is quite impressive, in its segment.
As far as pricing goes, expect the base petrol to start around the Rs 4.5 lakh mark, with the diesel Grand i10 priced at Rs 5.5 lakh.

A special iPhone device named iECG can help prevent strokes

By Vijay @ 02:04pm

A special iPhone device can be used to quickly detect heart rhythm problems and help prevent strokes, say researchers. Experts from the University of Sydney said the cheap device, known as the AliveCor Heart Monitor for iPhone (iECG), was highly effective and accurate in screening patients with undiagnosed atrial fibrillation (AF).

The study was revealed at the Australia and New Zealand Cardiac Society conference in Queensland, Xinhua reported: The device was invented by an Australian scientist and a US cardiologist. Ben Freedman, professor at the University of Sydney, and his colleagues tested the device on randomly selected people aged 65 or older at 10 pharmacies in Sydney. He said the device was an exciting breakthrough and can be operated without special skills.

“Atrial Fibrillation is the most common heart rhythm problem and is responsible for almost one third of all strokes,” he said. “AF increases with age, affecting more than 15 percent of people aged 85 years and over.”

Freedman said people with atrial fibrillation face up to a five-fold increased risk of stroke and tend to have more severe and life-threatening strokes. He said the research shows around 50,000 Australians aged over 65 have AF, but people themselves dosen't know it.

“There are currently a large number of people with unknown AF who are at high risk of stroke, but who are not on any medication,” he said. “The iECG allows us to screen patients for atrial fibrillation in minutes, and treat people early.”
