Certain iPhone 5 users have complained about faulty power buttons on their devices, and Apple has responded to these calls by offering to replace these buttons for free, Engadget reports. The company started replacing the buttons in the US and Canada and will bring this free repair service to other countries next month.

Apple mentioned on its support website that the power button on a “small percentage” of iPhone 5 manufactured from March 2013 onwards had stopped functioning or functioning erratically. The company will replace the button on these devices free of charge.

You can visit Apple’s support for instructions on how to check if your device is eligible for the free repair.

This is a rare occurrence for a company which prides itself for the high standards of its hardware and software. We will have to go back to 2010 for the “Antennagate” issue, wherein the company acknowledged that the iPhone 4 would experience signal loss when handled in a certain way and offered free phone casings to correct the issue.
