Docs, Sheets and Slides, three features previously included in the Google Drive cloud storage app, are becoming their own dedicated mobile apps, Google announced. The introduction of the new document editing apps means that Google now offers smartphone and tablet users a similar solution to those provided by Microsoft (Office) and Apple (iWork).
Docs for word processing, Sheets for spreadsheet editing and Slides for creating presentations are all available for both Android and iOS, and all three can be used in offline mode. Although it is no longer possible to edit documents through the Drive mobile app alone, users will be prompted to download the Docs or Sheets app when they attempt to do so. Of course, Drive will still allow users to view any document they have saved to the cloud from any mobile terminal.
Google Docs is available for download at the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). Google Sheets is also available at the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). Google Slides will be available in the near future.
