Earlier today Apple announced that a “small percentage” of iPhone 5 users had complained about faulty power button and that it would replace them for free. The replacement program has kicked off in the US and Canada and will be launched in other countries including India on May 2. Here is how you can check if your phone is eligible for replacement under faulty power button program.
Head over to Apple’s support website and choose your country. In the space provided you will first need to enter your iPhone 5’s serial number to check for eligibility. Your device’s serial number can be found in Settings -> General -> About.
If your handset is eligible, you will first need to backup your device on iCloud, turn off ‘Find my iPhone’, Erase all Content and Settings and then give it to your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider.
