Flipkart has announced a new service called Flipkart First, which is something similar to the Amazon Prime service in US. It is essentially an annual subscription that gives subscribers benefits including free shipping without any minimum transaction amount.
Once you have subscribed to the service, you will be entitled to free shipping and free in-a-day guarantee delivery. You will also be able to take advantage of the “Same-Day Guarantee” service at a discounted price, rather than the Rs 200 it costs regular shoppers. Other benefits include an extended 60 day replacement window as well as priority customer service. Reading the Terms and Conditions reveal that all these offers will only be applicable when you buy products from WS Retail to begin with.
Flipkart hasn’t mentioned when exactly it plans on launching this service or the subscription rate. As an introductory scheme it is offering 75,000 customers a chance to win a three month subscription for free. The winners will be announced later this month on May 20.
In comparison, the Amazon Prime service costs a person $99 (approximately Rs 5,946) per year and a discounted $39 (approximately Rs 2,342) for students. For that money, a subscriber is entitled to free two-day shipping with no minimum order size, unlimited streaming of movies and videos on Amazon Instant Video, and a service called Kindle Owners Lending Library, wherein Kindle owners can borrow one free e-book from Amazon’s library.
