Sony has today launched its flagship smartphone for the year, the Xperia Z2 for Rs 49,99/- in India. The Xperia Z2 too is based on the company’s OmniBalance design language, with a mix of metal and glass defining its chassis, like its predecessors. The Xperia Z2 comes with an impressive set of specifications and will be available starting from May 12. Sony is also offering the Smartband SWR10 worth Rs 5,990 for free on the purchase of the flagship device.
Talking about its specifications, the Xperia Z2 dons a 5.2-inch full HD 1080p Triluminos display with a pixel density of 424ppi. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core chipset ticking at 2.3GHz, paired with Adreno 330 GPU and a massive 3GB of RAM to ensure smooth performance. There is 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded by using a microSD card.
One of the key features of the phone is its 20.7-megapixel rear camera that can shoot videos in 4K resolution, which also is a key differentiator between the Xperia Z2 and its predecessor. The secondary camera is 2.2-megapixel.
Other features in the phone include a 3,200mAh battery. Wireless connectivity options are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/AGPS and NFC. Like the company’s previous top-spec Xperia Z smartphones, this one too is water and dust proof.
With all these features the smartphone will be pitted against the flagships of Samsung and HTC.
Samsung’s Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch full HD 1080p (443ppi) Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, is powered by Exynos 5422 Octa processor with 2GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, has a 16-megapixel rear snapper and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, and houses a 2,800mAh battery. One of the distinctive features on the phone is its fingerprint sensor.
The HTC One (M8), on the other hand, comes with a powerful set of specs including an all metal design, a slightly smaller 5-inch full HD 1080p (441ppi) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It boasts what the company calls as duo-camera with 4-UltraPixel with an additional depth sensor on the rear, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfie enthusiasts.
All the three smartphone run on Android 4.4.2 KitKat topped with their respective UI, which brings a major difference to the user experience. The Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched for Rs 51,500 however is currently retailing online at a lower price point and is also available under buyback offer. The HTC One (M8) was launched for Rs 49,900/-.
